Bappy
DESIGN BRIEF
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Design brief MFA DT Major Studio 2
My Target Audience needs a replacement for vision, being integrated, using all the senses they have to replace sight.
The history of this problem is blind people are seldom integrated in streets (especially in developing countries) and they have been seeing other solutions but they are still not offering the best answers
When researching the context of this problem, many other designers have addressed this problem as there are the normal sticks, ultrasonic sound sticks, and other devices that allow visually impaired people to get a feeling of the obstacles in front of them
Instead, I propose a set of two devices, one of them is being developed by someone already which is a hand mounted glove that has ultrasonic sensors and allows the visually impaired to get vibration when they detect objects or movement. I will also add to it a belt that should be covering a 360 degree angle and I will try to add headphones to it so it could be optional to use vibration or sounds. I will also try to add a GPS to it so that it could allow going into specific directions. (Maybe also Auto pilot system)
I am still not yet in the phase of testing it with my audience but I am working on having it working technically first.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT
I will be making “BAPPY” a device that will give a sonar sense to the visually impaired
The look and feel will address the preferences of my target audience in the most immense manner as they will be depending on it to get to other places and also to be able to deal with close contact objects
The project will be made out of: glove, arduino, ultrasonic sensors, vibrating motors, battery, mp3 shield and a GPS module
The project will be tested in the context of use by the target audience and its role in their lives.
